Common validation errors and how to fix them
Direct answer: Most failed submissions come from a handful of causes: the submitting legal entity in the dossier does not match the account, the UFI is malformed or contains hidden characters, a required language is missing for a selected country, pH is entered with an unaccepted qualifier, or a component's concentration range is not a permitted band.
Blocking rules (submission fails)
- Legal entity mismatch: dossier submitter and ECHA account legal entity must be identical.
- PCN number missing or not a UUID; an update references a PCN number that does not exist.
- UFI invalid: wrong length, wrong checksum, whitespace or hidden characters.
- Market placement empty or a selected country without its required language in free-text fields.
- Limited submission declared with consumer or professional use.
- Composition missing, components without reference substance, or ranges outside the permitted bands.
Warnings (submission succeeds, fix with an update)
- EuPCS category inconsistent with use type
- pH given as "approximately"
- Colour or physical state missing
- Toxicological text shorter than expected
How to avoid them
Run the Validation Assistant in IUCLID before submitting, and fix until it is clean. PCN Ready runs the same rules inside the form and will not generate a file until the blocking ones pass.
